Understanding BMI: a guide, not a verdict

3 min read

BMI (body mass index) is a simple calculation from your height and weight. It was designed to look at large groups of people, not to judge any one person, so the app shows it as background information — a rough guide, never a diagnosis or a goal in itself.

The standard bands (underweight, healthy, overweight, obese) can be a useful conversation starter, but BMI has real blind spots: it can't tell muscle from fat, so athletes often read 'high'; and it doesn't account for where you carry weight, your age, or your ethnicity, all of which matter for health.

Two people with the same BMI can be in very different health. How you feel, your energy, your sleep, your fitness, and your blood results tell you far more than one number — and small, steady habits move those in the right direction.

If you're concerned about your weight or health, talk to a doctor or dietitian, who can look at the whole picture. This is general wellbeing information, not medical advice.
