Managing everyday stress

3 min read

Stress is the body's normal response to demands. It becomes a problem when it never switches off. The good news is that a few small tools can reliably help your body shift out of "high alert".

Slow breathing is one of the fastest: breathe in for about four counts and out for six, for a minute or two. A longer out-breath gently signals your body to relax. Movement — even a brief walk — burns off stress hormones and lifts mood.

Naming what you can and cannot control helps too. Write the worry down, choose one small next step, and let go of the rest for now. Protecting sleep and taking real breaks make everything else easier to handle.

If stress feels constant or overwhelming, that is worth support — a doctor or counsellor can help. This is general, non-medical wellbeing information.
