Building a movement habit
3 min read
The hardest part of exercise is usually starting and keeping it going. The trick is to make the habit almost too easy to skip: five or ten minutes, at a set time, attached to something you already do.
Consistency beats intensity at first. A short daily walk you actually do is worth more than an ambitious plan you abandon in a week. As it becomes routine, you can add time or effort.
Anchor it to a cue — after breakfast, at lunch, or on the way home — and track it here so you can see the streak build. Missing a day is fine; just start again the next. Aim for progress, not perfection.
General guidelines suggest adults aim for about 150 minutes of moderate activity a week plus some strengthening, but the best plan is the one you will keep. If you have a health condition, check with a doctor before ramping up.
