Staying active and rested in pregnancy

3 min read

For most healthy pregnancies, staying gently active is good for you — it can help with energy, mood, sleep and common aches. But pregnancy is individual, so check with your midwife or doctor before continuing or starting any exercise, and follow their advice for your situation.

If you've been cleared to move, gentle options like walking, swimming and pregnancy-friendly stretching are popular. The general idea is to stay comfortable: you should be able to hold a conversation, avoid overheating, keep hydrated, and stop if anything feels wrong.

Rest is just as important. Tiredness is real, especially in the first and third trimesters, so listen to your body and let yourself slow down. Many people find sleeping on their side more comfortable later in pregnancy; your care team can advise on what's best for you.
